FootballNeymar’s Barcelona Return Edges Closer As He Reaches Agreement With La Liga Champions
- Neymar Jr has been deemed surplus to requirement at Paris Saint Germain
- The Brazilian forward has been exiled from the Ligue 1 champions’ main squad
- The 31-year-old is reported to have reached an agreement with Barcelona
Neymar Jr’s return to Barcelona keeps gaining momentum following the series of unanticipated events playing out at French Club Paris Saint Germain.
The Ligue 1 champions who were initially focused on assembling a team of Europe’s biggest star only a few years ago appear to have shifted to a team-oriented approach under the management of new coach Luis Enrique.
This decision by the club’s hierarchy has since seen a host of stars at the club relegated to the team of “undesirables.”
Neymar who tops the list of the club’s unwanted players has begun working on his exit from the club.
The Brazilian star is reported by Spanish daily SPORT to have reached an agreement with Barcelona with the hope to secure a return to the club.
However, Neymar’s transfer to Barcelona is not without its financial difficulties, given the Spanish club’s ailing finances.
Barcelona’s to finance Neymar's transfer
The Spanish club recently activated another economic lever to successfully register their new signings. Irrespective of the club having enough financial buffer to register the player, the Blaugrana are faced with the problem of the forward’s transfer fee.
Neymar who completed a ₤222 million transfer to the French club in 2017 is believed to be worth about ₤150 million by the French club today.
Barcelona however are exploring ways to have Neymar rescind his contract per reports from UOL Esporte.
This would mean the forward forfeiting an excess of ₤50 million in salaries and bonuses yearly.
Neymar who appears to be in a race against time to secure his immediate future would be paid €12 million in his first year if he joins the Blaugrana.
