- Neymar, the world's most expensive footballer, also informed the club he wants to leave this summer
Paris Saint-Germain have laid down a marker ahead of the start of the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season, opting to exclude three of their key stars from the roster.
The defending French champions will embark on their mission to retain the title without the contributions of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr, and Marco Verrati in their lineup for the opening league match against FC Lorient on Saturday night.
Luis Enrique, who took over from Christophe Galtier as the PSG manager, conveyed during the pre-match press conference that his decisions would be exemplified through his actions, per Fabrizio Romano.
When questioned about the availability of star forwards Neymar and Mbappe, he responded that his choices would speak for themselves.
Staying true to his statement, Luis Enrique has left out the aforementioned duo from the squad. This dynamic pair had collectively netted 42 goals, playing a pivotal role in PSG's historic 11th Ligue 1 title victory, according to France24.
This exclusion comes as the club endeavours to move forward from the spotlight of these star performers.
In addition to the absence of the French and Brazilian talents, Marco Verrati has also been conspicuously omitted from the 20-man squad for the inaugural league fixture of the season.
While the trio mentioned earlier won't participate in the season opener, all six of PSG's summer acquisitions, including the revelation of the 2022 World Cup Goncalo Ramos, along with Marco Asensio and Lucas Hernandez, have been included in the lineup.
