FootballErling Haaland Matches Unique Didier Drogba Record with Brace vs Burnley
- leastErling Haaland netted two goals in Manchester City’s opening game against Burnley
- The Norwegian ended up breaking two unique milestones thanks to his brace
- One record was previously held by Chelsea legend Didier Drogba
Erling Haaland matched Didier Drogba’s record thanks to his brace in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Burnley on Friday, August 11.
It appears the Norwegian is only picking up from where he left off after an astonishing debut campaign in English football which saw him score 52 goals across all competitions.
On Friday, finding the net against the Premier League newcomers Burnley at Turf Moor took him just four minutes.
The result was all but confirmed in the 36th minute when the 23-year-old struck another beauty to make it two goals for himself and his team before Rodri made it 3-0 in the 75th minute with a close range finish.
Haaland’s unique milestones
Thanks to his goals, Haaland matched Didier Drogba’s feat as he became only the second player to score at least two goals in an opening league match of the season for two consecutive campaigns.
As reported on SportsMole, Drogba achieved his feat in between 2009 and 2010 when he bagged a brace against Hull City in the 2009-10 campaign, before following it up with a hat trick against West Bromwich Albion the following campaign.
Another interesting stat that set Haaland apart was scoring the first and second goals of a Premier League season, which has never been achieved.
The striker has now scored against 17 of the 20 Premier League teams he has come against, and it is going to be difficult to bet against him finding more goals this season.
Haaland slaps Gary Neville
Sports Brief also reported on the interesting incident where Erling Haaland slapped Gary Neville, who was on punditry duty on Friday.

FootballAfter the game, Haaland was interviewed by Sky Sports pundits Neville and Carragher, but struggled to make out the latter’s thick Liverpool accent at times.
Moments after the interview, Haaland could not help himself as he made his way back to the pundits and this is where he gave Neville a cheeky slap as he walked away.
