Football"Essien Could Have Been Worth £220 Million": Ghanaian Coach Reacts to Caicedo's Price Tag
- Ghanaian coach Isaac 'Opeele' Boateng has reacted to Moises Caicedo's transfer cost
- The Ecuadorian midfielder is set to make a British record transfer move this summer
- Boateng claimed Michael Essien would be worth twice Caicedo's cost in today's terms
Ghanaian coach, Isaac 'Opeele' Boateng, has expressed shock at reports of Moises Caicedo's soon-to-be British record transfer fee.
The Ecuadorian midfielder is set to leave Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window, with Liverpool and Chelsea involved in a tug-of-war for his services.
News broke in the early hours of Friday morning that the Reds had reached an agreement with the Seagulls to sign Caicedo for a fee of £110 million.
With Caicedo leaving for such outrageous money, the US-based Ghanaian coach question what the price of Michael Essien would be in today's market.
According Opeele, the former Chelsea star could have gone for twice that amount, comparing his performances back in the day to the Ecuadorian.
"Moisés Caicedo reportedly secured by Liverpool for £110 million in a British Transfer Record deal. I just watched his highlights and can authoritatively say that, Michael Essien will cost twice as much, £220 million pounds, in today's football market," the former Asante Kotoko coach wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, per the latest reports, Caicedo is said to have rejected a move to Anfield with Chelsea said to be his main priority, according to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano.
Liverpool outbid Chelsea for Caicedo
Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Liverpool taking the lead in the race to sign Caicedo from Brighton in the summer window.
The Ecuadorian's transfer saga is coming to an end and it remains to be seen which English club will acquire his services.
Liverpool have reportedly swooped in at the last minute, submitting a British-record bid to land the Brighton midfielder.

FootballKlopp retracts to Pogba's price-tag claim
Jurgen Klopp learned when to recant his words as he was questioned over a past statement about huge player transfer fees in 2016.
Manchester United paid a world record £89m for Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016 and the German was not too impressed with that.
At the time, Klopp reacted to Pogba's record transfer by stating he would stop football the day he bought a player for over £100mil.
