FootballBlow for Mason Greenwood As Section of Man United Fans Plan Protests Against His Return
- Mason Greenwood's potential return is set to be hit by another snag
- A section of Manchester United fans have lined up protests as the new season kicks off
- The Red Devils are yet to provide clear guidelines on the Greenwood situation
Mason Greenwood has now suffered another setback in his long-awaited journey to make a professional return to football.
Greenwood has yet to get word from the Manchester United hierarchy on whether and when he will be accepted back into the fold after his court case. The new season starts today, with the Red Devils playing Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
The striker has not played for over 18 months. He was suspended in January last year after being charged with sexual assault and coercive behaviour. He was subsequently arrested and arraigned in court before his case was dropped early this year by the Crown Prosecution Services.
Greenwood has been spotted training alone in the past few weeks as he prepares to get back. He has reportedly received a couple of offers from other clubs, most notably Jose Mourinho's AS Roma, as reported by GOAL.
Protests against Greenwood
He has, however, suffered a fresh blow after it emerged that a group of Manchester United supporters are planning a protest before their game against Wolves.
The Athletic reports that the group consists of regular Old Trafford goers who intend to parade a banner with the words, "Female Fans Demand No Greenwood Return – End Violence Against Women."
"We have high standards at United about how we expect players to conduct themselves and, if you do not meet those standards, you need to be moved out."
Erik ten Hag has remained tight-lipped on the situation, insisting that only the club can make the final decision on the 21-year-old's future.

FootballGreenwood wants to stay
This comes at a time when Sports Brief reported that Greenwood is reportedly desperate to stay at the club despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford.
The youngster has not kicked a ball for more than a year and a half after he was suspended by United following his arrest in January 2022.
Reports indicate that Greenwood is desperate to remain at Old Trafford as he bids to reignite his football career.
