  • Kylian Mbappe remains firm on his decision not to extend his PSG contract
  • The French star recently made clear his intent to stay at Ligue 1 champions
  • With Mbappe frozen out by PSG, his decision will come at a significant cost

Kylian Mbappe’s transfer saga remains one of the biggest stories of the football summer.

Despite courting interest from Real Madrid, the French star ultimately re-signed with Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, adding another twist to the tale when he signed a two-year deal in the region of ₤630 million.

However, things took a drastic turn after Mbappe reportedly sent a letter to the PSG hierarchy in June this year, stating he would not be activating a one-year extension clause in his current deal.

With his decision meaning he would leave the French capital as a free agent in the summer of 2024, the PSG hierarchy reportedly gave him an ultimatum - extend or be sold.

Mbappe has not budged and as a result, has been frozen out by his management.

Mbappe sacrifices cash for passion

Per reports from Marca, the 24-year-old is believed to have reached a verbal agreement with Real Madrid for a transfer in the summer of 2024.

These reports have undoubtedly increased the animosity between the player and the Ligue 1 club - and will come at a considerable cost for the player.

PSG has so far evicted Mbappe from the first team set-up and also left him out of their pre-season tour in Japan. He has also been told that he will not feature for the Parisians this campaign despite Euro 2024 looming.

French outlet, Le Monde, reports that the forward has sacrificed a fee in the region of ₤199.3 million - which the club would have paid him if he chose to stay until 2025.

PSG is also set to lose out, however, as they will have to pay Mbappe a loyalty bonus reportedly in the region of ₤100mil if he remains at the club as of September 1.

Mbappe deal to Madrid off

Sports Brief also reported that Real Madrid’s transfer pursuit of Mbappe could be over with the 24-year-old reportedly deciding to remain with Paris Saint-Germain this season.

The forward’s decision has been described as 'final' - meaning it is now up to the Ligue 1 champions whether to re-integrate him into the main squad after banishing him to the B team.
