Michael Olunga put his Harambee Stars disappointment behind him to continue his hot streak for Al Duhail on Sunday, October 17.
The Kenyan international was among Al Duhail's goalscorers as Luis Castro's men hammered Al Rayyan 3-0 at Al-Gharafah Stadium.
Olunga was drafted in the starting XI to lead the line and wasted no time to justify his inclusion as he scored his side's third goal of the match in the 55th minute.
Edmilson Junior had earlier broke the deadlock from the penalty spot inside three minutes, before Almoez Ali doubling the advantage five minutes before the break via a penalty.
Olunga took the game beyond the hosts shortly after the break with a clinical finish, with his goal taking his tally to eight goals.
He is now the joint-highest goalscorer alongside Al Sadd's Baghdad Bounedjah.
Ghanaian Andre Ayew who is currently turning out for Al Sadd complete the top three podium with five goals to his name.
Meanwhile, Al Duhail's comfortable win took cemented their place in second place with 15 points, three behind leaders Al Sadd who have played an extra match.
Olunga disappointment
Olunga's impressive scoring streak for Al Duhail came only days after Harambee Stars' hopes of playing in the 2022 World Cup were brought to a halt by Mali.
The west African nation thrashed Stars 6-0 on aggregate during their Group E meeting, with the reverse tie played in Nairobi ending in a 1-0 loss for the hosts.
The defeat all but ended Kenya's World Cup dream as they are currently placed third in the group with a paltry two points.
