FootballMan United Make Special Request to Premier League After Ronaldo's Return
- It still remains to be seen the jersey number Cristiano Ronaldo will wear during his second spell at Old Trafford
- The Portuguese international is famous for his No.7 trademark, but the shirt number is currently unavailable
- Reports, however, suggest United are working around the clock to ensure they get Ronaldo the iconic jersey
- The move could see Edinson Cavani, who is the current wearer of the No.7 shirt switch to the vacant number 21
Man United have reportedly requested special dispensation from the Premier League to allow them to hand Cristiano Ronaldo the No.7 shirt.
Ronaldo sealed a stunning return to Old Trafford earlier in the week, making a comeback more than a decade after he left United.
The Portuguese talisman sported the iconic No.7 jersey during his first spell with the Red Devils which lasted six years.
It was his first time to wear the shirt number in his career and went on to retain it at Real Madrid and Juventus.
The jersey has since formed a great part of his own trademark as he also wears it at the international level with Portugal.
However, there is confusion on how he will get the shirt back at Old Trafford with Edinson Cavani the current wearer.
Metro UK now reports United have asked the Premier League to allow them to hand Ronaldo the jersey ahead of his return.
Cavani is understood to be more than willing to relinquish the shirt for his new teammate and switch to sporting the no.21 which he also wears when on duty with Uruguay.
No.21 fell vacant after the departure of Dan James who completed a permanent transfer to Premier League rivals Leeds.
Cavani denies Barca links
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported Edinson Cavani has confirmed he had no intention of quitting Man United on the eve of the summer transfer deadline.
Cavani was rumoured to be on the verge of leaving Old Trafford following the return of Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Edinson Cavani will 100 per cent not join Barcelona on deadline day," Cavani captioned the photo accompanying it with the red circle and flexing bicep emojis.
