  • Manchester United are on the hunt to find Harry Maguire's replacement
  • The defender is set to seal a sensational summer switch to West Ham
  • Benjamin Pavard is reportedly among four players United are considering

Manchester United have reportedly drawn up a four-man shortlist of world-class defenders they are targeting to replace the departing Harry Maguire.

Maguire is on the verge of sealing his Old Trafford exit after weeks of uncertainty that surrounded his future with the Red Devils.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have an agreement in principle with United to sign the embattled defender in a deal worth around £30m.

Maguire's imminent exit comes after speculation mounted about his possible exit following Erik ten Hag's decision to axe him as the club captain.

The exit of the England international would leave Ten Hag with only three options in central defence in the shape of Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and Lisandro Martinez.

Man United targeting Maguire replacement

As such, United are expected to enter the market in search of a replacement for the former Leicester City defender.

The Sun reports that Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard is among four defenders the Premier League club are targeting.

Pavard, who has just a year left on his Bayern deal, has been on United’s shortlist since the winter transfer window of last season.

Nice centre-back, Jean-Clair Todibo, Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba, and Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace are the other options reportedly in Ten Hag’s notebook.

Meanwhile, United have so far made three major signings, with Andre Onana, Mason Mount, and Rasmus Hojlund all moving to Old Trafford.

Maguire provides assist

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Maguire was the headline-maker on Sunday, August 6, as he assisted a goal after a horrific mistake to help his side secure a draw against Athletic Bilbao.

United were up against the Spaniards in their final pre-season game, barely 24 hours after playing RC Lens.

United pushed for an equalizer and it eventually came late in the game as youngster Pacundo Pellistri struck a beauty from inside the box after a headed laydown from Maguire.
