FootballCAF Set to Investigate Samuel Eto'o Over Alleged Improper Conduct as FECAFOOT President
- Samuel Eto'o has been reported to CAF by stakeholders of FECAFOOT
- The FECAFOOT president has been alleged to have improperly conducted himself in office
- The Barcelona legend could be removed from office if found guilty after CAF's investigation
The Confederation of African Football is set to investigate legendary Cameroonian footballer, Samuel Eto'o, over alleged improper conduct as president of FECAFOOT.
The former Barcelona player has been under serious pressure from stakeholders of Cameroonian football following his management of the federation.
His conduct has raised questions, leading to a report by members of the federation, who sent a formal complaint to the continent's governing body.
"CAF has received written statements from several Cameroonian football stakeholders to look into and investigate certain alleged improper conduct by Mr. Samuel Eto’o who is President of the Fédération Camerounaise de Football (“FECAFOOT”)," stated CAF on their official website.
"CAF is looking into these requests based on and in accordance with the CAF Statutes and Regulations. Whilst the allegations are prima facie serious, Mr. Samuel Eto’o is presumed to be innocent until an appropriate judicial body concludes otherwise.
"CAF will make no further announcement while the investigations are ongoing and will only make public statements when the proceedings have come to an end."
Eto'o could face potential removal from office if he is found guilty of breaching CAF's regulations.
The former Cameroon striker became FECAFOOT president in 2021, as reported by CNN.
Eto'o faces pressure from FECAFOOT
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Samuel Eto'o's troubles persist as his position as the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) is under threat, with numerous clubs in his home country demanding his resignation.
A significant contingent of eleven members from the Association of Amateur Football Clubs in Cameroon (ACFAC), led by President M. Balla Ongolo Henri Claude, have called for Eto'o, the former Barcelona forward, to step down from his role as FECAFOOT president.
Adding to his troubles, recent news has surfaced suggesting that the four-time African Footballer of the Year could potentially face legal consequences, including the possibility of jail time, Ghanaweb reports.
