FootballKylian Mbappe: 3 Things PSG Stand to Lose If Forward's Exit Is Sanctioned
- Kylian Mbappe remains keen on his decision to stay at PSG this season
- The French champions are exploring all options to force the forward out
- Mbappe has been excluded from all of the club's recent commercial activities
Kylian Mbappe astounded many at PSG when he sent a letter in June stating his desire not to extend his current contract with the French champions.
The forward’s decision caught many off guard, especially those within the hierarchy of the French club. This surprise stems from the fact that merely last summer, Mbappe penned a three-year contract with the club.
The 24-year-old's three-year contract would see him earn fees in the region of €180 million as a signing-on bonus, a whopping salary of €630 million over three years, and the power to have a say in key decisions at the club.
Now forced to list Mbappe on the transfer market, PSG face the peril of paying out a huge bonus and a salary surpassing €100 million to the forward if he is allowed to remain with the club for the current season.
Sports Brief takes a closer look at three things PSG could lose if the forward's departure is sanctioned this summer.
Loss of financial sponsorship
The Qatari Sports Investment-owned club could find themselves in a difficult situation financially if they let their highest goal scorer leave this summer.
There is the belief that renowned brands such as Air Jordan and EA Sports, for which Mbappe served as the ambassador for three consecutive years, along with several other potential sponsors interested in collaborating with the French club, might opt to disassociate themselves from the club. This potential disassociation arises from concerns about the diminished media exposure and attention that the club could experience due to the departure of the forward.

FootballUCL drought to continue
Despite PSG's recent accomplishments, the elephant in the room remains the club's lack of a UEFA Champions League trophy.
While they have not secured this coveted prize since Mbappe arrived in 2017, having Mbappe in their lineup undoubtedly enhances their prospects of clinching the European title.
If the forward departs, the club's pursuit of a UCL championship becomes a considerably more challenging endeavour.
Potential loss of appeal
Already ranked as the seventh-best league in Europe according to Europe’s League rankings, PSG and the overall French Ligue 1 face the risk of losing their attractiveness to top players worldwide.
The conceivable exit of Mbappe might set off a domino effect, triggering the departure of other pivotal team members and dissuading numerous other top players from considering the French league.
PSG to pay Mbappe
Sports Brief earlier reported that PSG are set to pay another ₤40 million to Kylian Mbappe.
