  • Harry Kane is the most valuable player in the world aged over 30 years
  • Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo miss out as they approach the end of their careers
  • The Premier League has four of the five stars ranked based on their market values

The football business is an expensive business, and age used to be a detrimental factor in how much clubs were willing to invest in footballers. Players over 30 are generally considered as nearing the end of their careers.

That has probably changed with Saudi Arabia investing heavily in aged stars.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are 36 and 38 respectively and won't command much in the way of transfer fees again, but they will certainly demand high wages.

Sports Brief looks at the top five most expensive footballers aged over 30 as Messi and Ronaldo settle for 17th and 70th place, respectively.

1. Harry Kane

Kane turned 30 days ago, which reminds him that he has little time left to win the first trophy of his career. According to Transfermarkt, he is valued at €90m. Bayern Munich are hot in their pursuit of him and have seen three bids rejected. The Germans are ready to send a fourth bid worth €110m.

2. Kevin De Bruyne

The Belgian playmaker could consider retirement when his Manchester City contract expires in 2025, and it would be fine as he has won it all on the club side. At 32, he is valued at €70mil, an astronomical figure for a player that has had fitness issues recently and walked out of two UEFA Champions League finals injured.

3. Mohamed Salah

Salah is one of the best wingers in the world and one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League. He is valued at €65mil and reportedly has interest from Saudi Arabia, but his agent Ramy Abbas Issa has claimed that his client is loyal to Liverpool, having just extended his contract, as reported by 90min.

4. Neymar

The Brazilian attacker is the world's most expensive player after moving from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 for €222m, but his current market value stands at €60mil, unsurprisingly as he is 31. As reported by RMC Sport, he has officially informed PSG of his desire to leave.

5. Heung-min Son

The South Korean, like his Tottenham teammate, Kane, needs to find an exit if he has ambitions of winning trophies. At 31, he is valued at €50mil and recently turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi League's most valuable players

Sports Brief previously analysed the top 5 most valuable players in Saudi Arabia, and Cristiano Ronaldo yet again misses out, further emphasising how much the end could be near for him.

Former European stars who made moves to the Middle East dominated the list, including three former Premier League stars and one of Ronaldo's teammates at Al-Nassr.
