Barcelona’s latest teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has left many tongues wagging after his stellar performance against Ange Postecoglou's side.
The 16-year-old sensation left former Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon dead in his tracks with his blistering pace and amazing footwork.
Coming in as an 80th-minute substitute with the game at 2-1, the La Masia graduate needed only one minute to set up Barcelona’s equaliser with a stunning pass with the outside of his right foot.
The forward was also instrumental in the subsequent goals scored by the club as they eventually went on to clinch the Joan Gamper trophy 4-2.
Reactions have trailed the youngster's stunning performance, and many have tipped him to grow into filling Messi’s shoes.
Yamal to fill Messi’s shoe?
Playing on the right wing, breezing past defenders, amazing acceleration, precise thread-eye passes, and quick judgement in the final third, Yamal’s performance reminded many Barcelona fans of their former captain Lionel Messi.
Little wonder Mundo Deportivo’s Javi Miguel has likened the player's display to that of Messi.
As posted on Twitter he said:
“Lamine Yamal’s performance in this Gamper is the most beastly appearance of a young man since Messi in a Gamper against Juventus”
Head Coach Xavi wasn’t left out of Yamal’s praise singers as he quoted by Barcelona Universal said:
"Lamine is a great talent, it's a pleasure to watch him play... And he's 16 years old."
For many faithful of the Catalan club, the emergence of the forward’s talent could not have come at a better time considering the departure of Ousmane Dembele.
