FootballNeville Claims Mikel Arteta Is Reason Behind New EPL Rule Affecting Managers
- The Premier League has introduced a new set of rules ahead of the new season
- Some of the new guidelines affect Premier League managers
- From next season, referees will have the power to punish bosses, especially when they overstep the mark
Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has sensationally claimed that Mikel Arteta is the reason behind one of the new Premier League rules introduced ahead of the upcoming season.
A raft of new guidelines which will dictate the Premier League have been laid down, including a change to the famous offside rule.
According to The Mirror, there will be some subtle rule changes for both players and fans to get used to across the nine-month, 38-game campaign.
Key among the new guidelines includes one affecting Premier League managers, where referees now have the power to punish bosses who overstep the mark.
The punishment for such behaviours can potentially earn a manager a red card and have them sent to the stands.
Neville blames Arteta for change
Neville, a former Premier League defender, now contends that Arteta is responsible for the new rule change.
The Arsenal boss was criticised last season for his animated gestures and movements in the technical area whenever decisions went against his side.
According to Neville, Arteta was cited as a "big reason" behind the Premier League's decision to change the rules on touchline behaviour.
"I spoke to a non-league coach and they had a briefing in pre-season about touchline behaviour and they said that Arteta was a big reason that it was brought in, because of last season’s behaviour," the legendary defender said on The Overlap.
Arteta victim of new rule
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mikel Arteta has become the first manager to be stung with a new rule introduced ahead of the 203/24 season.
