Commenting on the signing of the midfielder, Lirich manager, Jens Szopinski said, per nrz.de:

"From the Bundesliga to the Liricher cage, that's a nice headline, isn't it? With our assistant coach, Gerald Siebert and Dennis Peprah, who we signed from Blau-Weiß Oberhausen, there are also two native Ghanaians in our team."
"You know Anthony through the Ghanaian community in the Ruhr area and [they] made Arminia palatable for him. Anthony then came to training and was impressed by the camaraderie and quality of the team. He then stayed and has been with us since the beginning of July," he added.

Annan spent three season in the Bundesliga, where he made just 14 competitive appearances for Schalke 04, as reported by Transfermarkt.

He is revered in Ghana for playing a significant role in the Black Stars reaching the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
