Real Madrid look set to start the 2023/24 football season without a proven target man after witnessing one of their finest forwards, Karim Benzema, leave the club at the end of last season.

Through the summer window, Los Blancos have been linked with a long list of forwards, including Harry Kane, Dusan Vlahovic, Lautaro Martinez, and Kylian Mbappe.

They have not completed the signings of any of these forwards and are faced with raised eyebrows as to where the huge chunk of goals expected from the team through the season will come from. Sports Brief takes a look at the current top scorers at the club with the hope they can step up and take over the reins as the club’s target man.

Toni Kroos

The German midfield maestro remains one of the finest midfielders the world of football has ever seen.

Kroos is synonymous with his high-octave passing and needle-eye accuracy. The 33-year-old is often credited with the orchestration of play in the midfield of Los Blancos, but many forget the midfielder's ability to hit the back of the net with his precise shots.

During his time at Bayern Munich, Kroos found the back of the net over 23 times and has so far found the net 27 times for Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti will need his German sniper to attempt a few more long-range shots as he did under the management of Zinedine Zidane, with the hope that he can score more goals.

Lucas Vazquez

The 32-year-old Real Madrid academy graduate has featured for the club in a number of positions. Starting out at right wing, the former Espanyol loanee has so far found the back of the net 33 times for Los Blancos.

Though Vazquez plays mostly as a right-back for Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian gaffer will hope the Spanish international can use his attacking instinct to create more goals for the club this season.

Luka Modric

The Croatian midfielder remains a reference for a lot of young players in football.

Modric’s ability to dictate play like a metronome, coupled with his decisive nature, are just a few of the amazing qualities he has.

Since making his debut for Real Madrid in 2012, the 38-year-old has found the back of the net 37 times. Ancelotti will need the goalscoring instinct of the midfielder to be reawakened this season.

Rodrygo Goes

A forward with finesse, Rodrygo's quick feet and versatility have helped him settle in perfectly into the environment and demanding pressure of Real Madrid.

The spotlight will be heavily fixed on the Brazilian forward as coach Carlo Ancelotti has mentioned on a couple of occasions that he will be the one to lead the club from the middle of the attack through this season.

Rodrygo so far has found the back of the net 37 times for Real Madrid.

Vinicius Jr.

Vinicius Jr. is Real Madrid’s poster boy, and deservingly so.

So far the Brazilian star has found the back of the net 60 times for Los Blancos, and they will be counting on him again to keep up and even improve his impressive run of form ahead of the new season.

Joselu to lead Madrid's attack

In a previous report, Sports Brief stated that new signing, Joselu Marto has declared his readiness to lead the attack of Real Madrid through the 2023/24 season.

Whilst the club looks to complete the signing of Kylian Mbappe, Ancelotti could rely on the ability of the veteran forward, who came through the ranks at Real Madrid Academy.
