  • Real Madrid’s summer signing Joselu is ready to lead the club’s attack this season
  • The Spaniard joined Los Blancos from relegated La Liga club Espanyol this summer
  • Joselu scored 16 goals for Espanyol last season leading to his Real Madrid transfer

Karim Benzema’s departure from Real Madrid this summer has left a major vacuum in the club’s attacking set-up, heading into the 2023/24 season.

Benzema dumped the 14-time Champions League winners for Saudi Pro League side, Al-Ittihad, after accepting a bumper pay package. This led Los Blancos to sign Joselu from the relegated Espanyol.

According to ESPN, Joselu has now revealed he is ready to lead Real Madrid’s attack this season despite the La Liga’s club push to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

"It's been proven that the best in the world have performed better and have got better stats after the age of 30. That's true of me and I'm really enjoying myself.
"I want to keep on doing that because I feel really young and alive. This is a special point of my career and I don't want it to end."

Real Madrid signed Joselu after the Spanish forward impressed with Espanyol last season, scoring 16 league goals for the relegated La Liga club.

Courtois backs Joselu to succeed

Meanwhile, Real Madrid veteran, Thibaut Courtois has backed new summer signing, Joselu, to become a success at the La Liga club after joining from Espanyol this transfer window, Madrid Universal reports.

The Belgian goalkeeper praised the 33-year-old forward’s goal-scoring abilities as he comes in to replace former Los Blancos captain, Benzema, who left for the Saudi Pro League this summer.

Real Madrid struggled with their attack towards the tail end of last season and completed the term with neither the La Liga title nor the Champions League trophy to show for it.

Joselu scores breathtaking bicycle kick

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Joselu scoring a spectacular bicycle kick goal as Real Madrid downed Manchester United in a high-profile friendly in Houston, Texas.

The Spanish giants took a 1-0 lead as the match was approaching its closing moments when the 33-year-old delivered a stunning and acrobatic finish.

Lucas Vasquez skillfully received the ball on the right wing and delivered a precise cross to the back post, where Joselu found himself completely unmarked.
