  • Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the best-paid athlete in the world as of 2023
  • His salary at Al-Nassr is said to earn him less than his off-field investments
  • Ronaldo owns or has shares in at least five businesses as his brand increases

Cristiano Ronaldo might have made his name through his football talent and work ethic, but the striker is equally astute at closing business deals.

He will go down as one of the best-ever players, with his CV preceding him in many conversations. From the goals he has scored to the trophies he has won, there is really no debate on that front.

The ironic thing, however, is that despite his football talent, a good portion of the Portuguese icon's success comes from his off-field investments.

Forbes recently released its rankings of the wealthiest athletes in the world this year, with Ronaldo unsurprisingly leading the list.

The 38-year-old's 2023 earnings stand at $136 million, with $90mil of that coming from beyond the pitch. Sports Brief now takes a look at some of his businesses.

1. Pestana Hotels

Ronaldo shared a post on Instagram for the seventh anniversary of the Pestana CR7 Lifestyle Hotels on August 7. This is a collaboration between him and the Pestana Hotel Group, which saw a few venues launched under the veteran's brand.

2. Clothing line and perfumes

You've definitely seen the underwear with Ronaldo's initials - CR7. He has a company that produces innerwear for both men and women, plus a collaboration with Eden Parfums that saw the conceptualisation of the Cristiano Ronaldo fragrances.

3. Gym and fitness centre

Even without knowing Ronaldo, one might first assume that he is someone who loves to work out - and they would be correct. In 2021, the former Real Madrid striker opened a gym in Porto - CR7 Fitness by Crunch - to enable people to work out exactly like him, as reported by Essentially Sports.

4. Restaurants

The father of five partnered with tennis great, Rafael Nadal, and the Mabel Hospitality Group. Together, they have a couple of restaurants in diverse locations like Ibiza, Beverly Hills, Doha, and Madrid.

5. Hair clinic

While playing for Juventus, Ronaldo opened a hair clinic in Spain to help people improve their self-esteem by offering transplant services, as reported by GOAL.

The businesses listed aren't the only ones owned by the Al-Nassr star. He is also believed to have a rental service company for his private jets.

His move to the Middle East at the start of the year could also open him up to new opportunities. He is the best-paid player in the world, with an estimated salary of €172 million yearly.

Ronaldo powers Al-Nassr into semis

Sports Brief also reported on Ronaldo powering Al-Nassr into the semis of the Arab Club Champions Cup, with a convincing victory over reigning champions, Raja Casablanca.

The last time the Saudi Arabian club reached this stage of the tournament was in 1995. However, the club was fuelled by their Portuguese captain, who opened the scoring.
