The Super Falcons were impressive in Brisbane over 120 minutes and were unlucky not to have produced another upset when the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate after extra time.
When it finally boiled down to penalties, Nigeria were handed the immediate advantage after Georgia Stanway fired wide in England’s first kick from 12 yards out.
However, the 11-time African champions also missed their first kick as Desire Oparanozie shot wide, with Michelle Alozie failing to convert as England regained the advantage, as reported by the BBC.
The Lionesses scored all their remaining penalties after Stanway’s miss, winning the shootout 4-2.
