FootballSadio Mane: Thomas Tuchel Takes Blame for Senegal Star’s Failure at Bayern After Al Nassr Move
- Thomas Tuchel has taken the blame for Sadio Mane's failure at Bayern Munich
- Mane lasted only one season at Bayern, ending the season with 12 goals
- He has now moved on to Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League
Thomas Tuchel has accepted responsibility for Sadio Mane's lack of success during his time at Bayern Munich.
Mane, the latest high-profile player to embrace the Saudi wave, bid farewell to his lacklustre stint with the Bavarians after just one season.
Despite high expectations following his transfer from Liverpool, the 31-year-old managed only 12 goals across all competitions, per Transfermarkt, a far cry from the anticipated heights.
Both Mane and Bayern mutually agreed to part ways, acknowledging the failed partnership, with Tuchel now admitting to not unlocking the full potential of the Senegal international.
"We had a big hug. We agreed that we don’t like what’s happening now but that it’s the best in this situation," the German tactician said on Mane's exit, as quoted by GOAL.
"I totally understand that he feels hurt. I also don’t feel happy. We didn’t bring it to the full potential, which is my responsibility."
Mane makes Al-Nassr debut
After completing his move from Bayern Munich this week, the former Liverpool forward made his highly-anticipated debut for Saudi Pro League club, Al-Nassr, against Zamalek in the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Introduced after halftime, the 31-year-old came close to marking his debut with a goal, but unfortunately, his effort missed the target.
Despite not getting on the scoresheet, his teammate and captain - Cristiano Ronaldo - scored late in the game as the Egyptians held the Saudis to a 1-1 draw.
What's next for Mane?
In search of more game time and a sprinkle of luck in front of the goal, Mane will be eager to right the wrongs at Bayern Munich after kickstarting his Al-Nassr adventure on a good note.
