Eddie Nketiah reunited with legendary Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger during the Gunners' final preparatory game against AS Monaco in midweek.
While Arsenal were preparing ahead of their Community Shield clash against Manchester City on Sunday, the game also served as a ceremonial match for Wenger, whose statue was being unveiled at the Emirates.
For the first time in Nketiah's career, he wore the captain's armband as he led the North London club into the match against the Ligue 1 side.
Nketiah scored as Arsenal defeated Monaco on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
With Wenger watching from the stands, Nketiah shared his excitement, stating the former Arsenal manager is proud of his development.
"I’ll take him [here] next week as well if he can!" Nketiah told the club's media, as quoted by GHANASoccernet.
"I was speaking to him in the changing room after and he’s really proud of me. I’m really grateful for everything he did for me for my career, and it’s great to have such a legend here and see a new statue outside.
"He just told me to keep going. He thinks my game’s come on a lot since [he departed]. He’s really proud of me.
"Obviously, he’s seen me develop and watched me from when he first gave me my debut up until now. Like I said I’m really grateful and it’s really good to see him around."
Arsenal will begin the season with a game against City in the Community Shield, as reported by Eurosport.
