Matteo Guendouzi became the latest victim in a list of footballers who have suffered a burglary in recent months.

The Frenchman’s house was reportedly raided on Wednesday, August 2, and a flashy £200,000 Rolex watch was stolen.

This all happened as the midfielder was out playing at a friendly involving Bayer Leverkusen and his club Marseille.

Sunsport reports that at the time of the incident, Guendouzi’s wife Mae was at home when she was woken up by the sound of a breaking window. She immediately alerted the police.

According to French outlet La Provence, the burglars were scared away after noting that their fracas had woken someone in the house, but still managed to flee with the Rolex watch.

The former Arsenal man lives along the coast of Marseille in a town known as Cassis. Several of his teammates also live in the area.

Guendouzi joined Marseille in 2022 after a fallout with Mikel Arteta, and his £9 million transfer after a successful loan spell with the French giants meant he would have to move from London to the South of France.

How the game went

Regarding the game, Marseille lost 2-1 against German outfit Bayern Leverkusen, who scored two goals in the first half.

Marseille scored what proved to be a consolation goal in the 78th minute through Francois Regis Mughe.

Guendouzi was replaced late in the second half by another former Arsenal man, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Players who have been robbed

Sports Brief also reported on a list of big names in football who have been subjected to robberies in the past.

Leading the list is Sadio Mane, who once had his house ransacked and valuables including watches, phones, and car keys stolen while he was away on Champions League duty against Bayern Munich.

Dele Alli is another player who came face to face with intruders in his home, who made away with valuables, including watches.
