The 1-1 result proved sufficient for the Riyadh-based team to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup, finishing in second position behind Al-Shabab, according to MyKhel.

Ronaldo rescues Al-Nassr from elimination

Zamalek, still with a mathematical chance of qualifying for the knockouts, started the game with great intensity and both teams had goals disallowed as they pressed for victory.

The first half remained goalless until Zizo converted a penalty early in the second half after former Manchester United star, Alex Telles, was penalised for a handball inside the box.

As the threat of elimination loomed, Ronaldo rose to the occasion, heading home a towering goal in the 87th minute to rescue Al-Nassr from a premature exit from the competition.

The match also marked Sadio Mane's debut for Al-Nassr following his transfer from Bayern Munich in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Ronaldo ends goal-scoring drought

In related news, Sports Brief reported on Ronaldo ending his five-game goal drought with a powerful header in Al-Nassr's commanding 4-1 victory against US Monastir.

The 38-year-old star had been struggling to find the back of the net since the start of the pre-season but found his groove again in the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup.

Ronaldo showcased his goal-scoring prowess with a stunning headed goal - which was his 145th in total - during Al-Nassr's comfortable win against the Tunisian outfit.

Ronaldo ranked best in Saudi

Sports Brief also reported the Portuguese veteran is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, regardless of his current stint in the Saudi Pro League.

Numerous star players have made the transition from European football to the Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window. However, Ronaldo ranks as the best of all.
