- Lauren James' father, Nigel James, has reacted to his daughter's World Cup performances
- The Chelsea star has been England's outstanding player at the tournament in Australia and New Zealand
- England will face the Super Falcons in the last 16 of the tournament
Nigel James, the father of English footballers Reece and Lauren, has revealed that he is not surprised by his daughter's performances at the FIFA Women's World Cup despite feeling proud of her accomplishments.
Lauren has been the Three Lionesses' star at the tournament in New Zealand and Australia, scoring three goals and delivering three assists at the group stage.
In England's final group game against China, Lauren scored twice and created three as the Europeans thrashed China 6-1 to set a date with Nigeria in the last 16.
James, who watched all three games on television back home in England, insists Lauren was destined for greatness.
"I've just been watching at home in my own peace with friends and family. When she scored we just looked at each other, and then at the screen, and then gave each other a cuddle," he told the BBC.
"You just think, 'Wow'.
"I've seen her do things like that before. She has an unbelievable technique that she has worked on for many years, but when you see it at the World Cup, it's amazing.
"I'm very proud to say we are the first family to produce two kids - one male and one female - playing for England [since records began]."
Lauren will have to continue her run of form if England are to win the Women's World Cup for the first time.
England will face Nigeria in the last 16 in Brisbane on August 7, as reported by The Telegraph.
