- Arsenal will now shift their focus to their Community Shield clash with Manchester City
Arsenal are warming up for the 2023/24 season in style after being crowned the Emirates Cup champions.
The Gunners secured the trophy after stunning French side, Monaco, via post-match penalties at the Emirates Stadium.
The Wednesday night clash marked Arsenal's return to England after their pre-season trips to Germany and the United States of America.
The north Londoners' pre-season campaign included an eight-goal thriller against Barcelona and a 2-1 defeat against Premier League rivals, Manchester United.
However, Mikel Arteta's charges showed no signs of struggle when they took on Monaco, coming from a goal down to equalise before the tie was forced into a penalty shootout, per MSN.
How Arsenal silenced Monaco
Monaco took the lead after the half-hour mark via Youssouf Fofana, who fired home the opener after Thomas Partey and Takehiro Tomiyasu were caught napping.
The Ligue 1 side nearly doubled their lead minutes later, only for the hosts to fend off the threat.
With a minute left before the interval, Eddie Nketiah drew Arsenal level, with the youngster cushioning a straightforward volley into the back of the net from a few yards out to make it 1-1.
Neither side could find the winner after the break, with the victor decided via a penalty shootout.
The Gunners went on to beat their visitors 5-4, thanks to Gabriel's winner, which was enough to help them lift the Emirates Cup.
