South African Football Association (SAFA) President, Dr. Danny Jordaan is exceptionally proud of Banyana Banyana’s performance.
The South African Women’s national team made history when they qualified for the knockout stages of the FIFA Women's World Cup.
Banyana beat Italy 3-2 in their final group game to achieve the historic feat.
Reflecting on the achievement, Jordaan said that the side brought joy to millions of fans on the whole continent, not just South Africa, via a SAFA statement.
“We would like to congratulate our girls for making history and bringing joy not only to 60 million South Africans, but to the African continent as a whole,” he said.
Jordaan also touched on the team’s next game against The Netherlands in the round of 16.
“It’s anyone’s game now and this Banyana Banyana side have shown they have what it takes to go places,” Jordaan added.
While the SAFA president was busy praising the South African side, fans were trolling him on social media.
Supporters made fun of the president, saying he was stressed now after realising that Banyana are entitled to a bigger bonus for making it to the knockout stages.
Banyana and the association were involved in a payment row before the start of the tournament.
