FootballTen Hag Discloses 2 Conditions Maguire Must Meet To Make First Team Return
- Harry Maguire is facing an uncertain future at Man United after falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag
- However, the United boss has insisted that the embattled defender is still part of his plans
- West Ham United are among the clubs Maguire has been linked with this summer
Erik ten Hag has opened the door for Harry Maguire's possible return to the Manchester United first team.
The England international has endured a tumultuous spell under Ten Hag, with the defender dropping out of the first XI last term.
At the time, the Dutchman showed a clear preference for the partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at the heart of his defence, with Maguire left warming the bench.
The former Leicester defender's future at Old Trafford was further plunged into doubt recently after the United boss axed the centre-back as the club's captain.
Maguire has since been linked with a move away this summer, with West Ham United believed to be among the leading contenders for his services, per The Mirror.
Maguire gets lifeline
However, the defender can breathe a sigh of relief after Ten Hag hinted he can reignite his Old Trafford career - but only if he can meet two conditions.
According to the Dutch boss, the 30-year-old £80 million England ace would need to 'fight' for his place and 'prove himself.'
"I will not say that Harry isn’t part of this group. He has to fight for his position," Ten Hag said, as quoted by The Sun.
"He is a very good centre-back, and I believe in the potential of Harry Maguire. It’s just that he has to prove himself and fight his way into the team. It’s up to him, and I think he can do it," he added.
