- The 3-2 defeat was the Red Devils' third loss of their pre-season campaign in the United States
Erik ten Hag has rated Manchester United's chances of winning the Premier League title next season following their dismal pre-season campaign.
United enjoyed an encouraging season under the Dutch manager last term, securing a third-place Premier League finish as well as claiming the Carabao Cup.
Most fans are optimistic about an even better season ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, with ten Hag and his charges expected to challenge for the trophy.
However, the Red Devils' manager has delivered a brutal assessment of his side's chances of beating rivals, Man City to the EPL crown next term.
"I think in pre-season, we shouldn't talk about that. I think no one in the Premier League can do that, maybe City - they can do that because for the last six years they won the title five times," ten Hag said, per The Sun.
"So they can talk about that, but any other club must first compete for the first four positions, and make sure you are getting in the first four and then after [that] the first two, and then maybe you can see about getting yourself into such a position, but don't talk about that achievement," he added.
Man United's dismal pre-season campaign
Ten Hag's assessment came after a disappointing pre-season campaign for the Red Devils that has seen them lose three games in a row.
United were initially stunned by lower-tier side, Wrexham AFC, before they went on to suffer a frustrating defeat against La Liga giants, Real Madrid.
