Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, has responded to a viral video of him scolding Harry Maguire during their pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper, who joined United from Inter Milan this summer, was brought on to replace Tom Heaton while Maguire was substituted on later in the match.

The match was clouded by a tense moment midway through the second half, with a furious Onana caught on camera shouting at the United defence over a loose ball.

The Sun reports that the goalkeeper, who joined in a £47 million deal, appeared to shout at the center-half not long after the Englishman was subbed on.

Onana seemingly had little patience after Maguire's ill-conceived pass allowed Dortmund to launch a counter-attack.

However, the former Ajax keeper has now come out to break his silence on the incident, which left a section of fans criticising him and others praising his leadership.

In his response, Onana downplayed the moment and claimed it was merely a result of demanding a lot from his teammates.

He went on to underscore his good relationship with Maguire, describing the embattled defender as a 'top guy and a fantastic player'.

"I try to talk to them a lot because I know he's a good player; he is one of the captains of the team," Onana told Manchester United's official website.

"That’s big and he is good with the ball, so I would demand [from] him a lot and he’s a good, great guy... I have to be and he has to be ready and I spoke with him because when I'm in the goal, I demand to everyone a lot," he added.
