  • C.K Akonnor has reacted to the Ghanaian Sports Minister's compensation claims
  • Honourable Mustapha Ussif has revealed that the Ministry has paid the former Ghana coach
  • Akonnor was sacked as the Black Stars' coach in September 2021

Former Ghana coach, Charles Kwabla Akonnor has denied claims by the Ghanaian Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, that he was paid $100,000 following his sacking.

The former Black Stars captain was dismissed in September 2021, just ten months into his role as head coach of the senior national team.

And according to the Sports Minister, Akonnor was duly compensated with an amount of $100,000.

"We still owe Milovan [Rajevac]," the Minister said at a press briefing in Accra, as quoted by Ghanasoccernet.
"All of C.K and Milovan, once their contract was terminated, we sat with them, negotiated their exit and C.K was paid $100,000 immediately after the negotiation same as Milovan."

Akonnor, who was replaced by Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac, admitted he received some money, but stated it was not the amount the Minister shared with the media.

"I never received the kind of money the minister mentioned. I don’t want to put out how much they paid me but it was not $100,000 as the minister said," Akonnor told Graphic Sports, as quoted by myjoyonline.

The former Asante Kotoko gaffer is still owed by the Sports Ministry and efforts to reclaim his money have been futile.

Akonnor to expose Black Stars

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Akonnor is preparing to reveal some of the problems in the Ghana team.

The ex-Black Stars captain was sacked as Ghana coach in September 2021 following Ghana's defeat to South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers.

Akonnor has not spoken about his departure since, but in an interview with 3 Sports, the 48-year-old said there are issues in the team that need to be exposed.

Tanko on Ghana job

Ex-Ghana international, Ibrahim Tanko has provided insight on how he lost his coaching job with the Black Stars.

Tanko, who served as the first assistant coach to Kwesi Appiah between 2017 and 2019, was sacked by his boss after Ghana's underwhelming performance at the 2019 AFCON.

The now Technical Director of Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions was reported to have fallen out with head coach Kwesi Appiah and further reports suggested Tanko was being considered by the Ghana Football Association to replace his immediate boss as head coach.
