- Ten Hag could be seen giving the 19-year-old a stern talking-to as he walked off
- The gaffer has since fired another warning at Forson, who is a product of the Manchester United academy
Erik ten Hag has come out to explain why he decided to take off Manchester United youngster, Omari Forson after just 36 minutes on Sunday, July 30.
United succumbed to a 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in an entertaining encounter that could have gone either way at the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
Starlet Forson was among those selected by Ten Hag in a first-half XI, but the manager decided he had seen enough of the youngster after just 36 minutes.
As reported by The Sun, the substitution came after a furious incident that saw Forson go head-to-head with Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.
The Manchester United winger tried to tackle Adeyemi and kicked out at Julian Ryerson, leading to an angry reaction from the Borussia Dortmund duo.
Having swung an arm, Forson was booked for the incident and Ten Hag, who appeared angry on the touchline, called for a substitution moments later as he brought on Antony.
A video of the incident shared online showed Ten Hag berating Forson, who was clearly upset, before the youngster walked away.
What Ten Hag said
After the game, Ten Hag tried to make sense of the situation as he explained his substitution.
According to the 53-year-old, he did not want Forson to get subjected to a red card.
"When there is a VAR, he gets sent off," he said, per SportBible.
"He played a good game and the opponent gets annoyed with him, so that is a learning curve but don't take it into your own hands."
