Days after scoring a stunner on his debut for Al-Ittihad, Karim Benzema netted a game-winner for his club as they beat CS Sfaxien from Tunisia 1-0 to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Arab Club Champions Cup.

Al-Ittihad now have six points from two games and sit top of Group A. They won their first match 2-1 against another Tunisian side, Esperance, on July 27.

The veteran French striker was at the right place at the right time - a place he's found himself many times in the box during a match - when a cross was pinged into Sfaxien box and the defence failed to clear the ball.

Al-Ittihad's Abderazzak Hamdallah headed the ball back to Benzema, who took a touch, turned, then fired into the far corner to give his team a crucial win.

The Saudi Arabian side will face Iraqi side, Al-Shorta, on August 2, in a game which will decide who finishes top of Group A.

The Arab Club Champions Cup

The Arab Club Champions Cup is a yearly club tournament contested by the best clubs in the Arab world, per 90min. 16 teams are taking part in the competition.

This year, 10 teams qualified automatically for the tournament, and seven of those teams were champions in their respective leagues last season.

One is the defending champion, the other is a previous runner-up, while the final team received an invite from host nation, Saudi Arabia.

African teams have dominated the tournament in the last few years. There hasn't been a winner from Saudi since 2005. Al-Hilal, Al-Ettifaq, and Al-Shabab have all won it twice, while Al-Ittihad and Al Ahli have lifted it once.

Benzema scores on Al-Ittihad debut

Last week, Benzema scored a beauty for Al-Ittihad in his team's first group game. They were trailing 0-1 before the Frenchman assisted Hamdallah for the equaliser, as Sports Brief reported.

The game was finely poised before the Real Madrid legend decided to take matters into his own hands. He then unleashed an unstoppable shot from outside for his first goal for the club.

The 35-year-old reigning Ballon d'Or holder joined the club this summer after 14 years with the Spanish giants. Ex- Chelsea star, N'Golo Kante, also made his Al-Ittihad debut in the same game.
