Former Chelsea star, Mikel Obi has responded to a curious fan who asked if he truly snubbed singer 2Baba at a London club back in 2006.
Fans have linked the lyrics of 2Baba’s ‘Only Me’ to be directed at the former Super Eagles captain Mikel after an alleged row in London.
It was said that Mikel snubbed 2Baba, and several years after the incident, a fan took to social media to ask the former Nigerian international about the allegation.
Mikel had shared a video selfie of himself chilling in his home and added the caption:
“When the music hits hard, and you can’t get enough 🤩 Have a good Sunday my people.”
And a curious fan wrote in the comment section:
“Did you truly snub 2face on a club in London back in 06?”
The former Tianjin TEDA star replied:
“No, I never did. Am a big fan of his. So I wouldn’t do such a thing have a lovely day.”
2Baba on the rumour
2Baba also revealed that when he heard about the rumours at that time, he called the midfield maestro, and they ended up laughing at the rumours.
He said via YNaija:
“At the time I did the song, Mikel had issues with his inability to show up for certain Super Eagles games, then some very good rumour monger picked a line from my song as regards patriotism towards representing the national football team and ran with the story of a rift between us, I spoke with Mikel on the phone, and we had a good laugh about it.”
