Zambia are ending their debut World Cup tournament in style.

The Copper Queens took a 2-0 lead over Costa Rica in the first half of their final 2023 World Cup game, with both goals going down in history.

Lushomo Mweemba scored the opening goal with just 2:11 on the clock, giving Zambia their first-ever World Cup goal and also scoring the fastest goal of the tournament.

Barbra Banda then doubled the lead after she was awarded a penalty, and made World Cup history in the process.

As noted by Fox Sports, The Copper Queen’s captain was brought down in the box and stepped up to convert the penalty.

Her goal was officially classified as the 1000th goal in the history of the Women's World Cup.

After suffering two 5-0 defeats in their opening two games of the tournament, the Southern African side came alive in their farewell fixture.

Zambia have made history at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Southern African side have endured a difficult debut in New Zealand and Australia after two heavy losses, but now have a significant achievement that they can take back home with them.

Lushomo Mweemba scored the country’s first-ever goal in the tournament when she netted against Costa Rica, Sports Brief reported.

Zambia eliminated from World Cup

Zambia Women are the first African side to crash out of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Copper Queens could not make it past the preliminary stages after back-to-back 5-0 losses in their opening two matches.

They remain bottom of Group C, having conceded five goals each against Japan and Spain, and their last match against Costa Rica is tagged as a formality, Sports Brief reported.
