- South Africa's team doctor Nthabiseng Maesela confirmed that the captain sustained a minor soft tissue injury
Banyana Banyana have been given some good news ahead of their final FIFA Women’s World Cup group game.
The South African side will take on Italy, needing a win to qualify for the round of 16, and could have their captain back for the game.
Banyana’s team doctor Nthabiseng Maesela confirmed that Jane should return to action soon as she sustained a soft tissue injury against Argentina. She would not confirm whether that would be in time for the game against Italy.
“With regards to Refiloe, as we all saw, she was taken off the field in a stretcher. She rolled her ankle, and scans confirmed that it’s a minor injury — it’s a soft tissue injury,” Maesela said.
“That’s something she should fully recover from — she should be back on the field soon. I cannot confirm when for now. But the country should rest assured that she’s doing well,” she added.
Jane suffers a nasty injury
Jane was stretchered off during the game against the South American side shortly before Banyana scored their first goal.
As noted by IOL, she was seen wearing a moon boot and walking on crutches at the team hotel after picking up the injury.
With their captain most possibly for the big clash, Banyana will be looking to secure their first win in the Women’s World Cup and qualify for the round of 16 for the first time in their history.

FootballRefiloe Jane stretchered off
Sports Brief reported how South Africa will be sweating over the fitness of Refiloe Jane for the rest of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Banyana Banyana’s captain had to be stretchered off during her side’s game against Argentina, in a must-win game for both sides.
Jane, who captained the side to Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) glory in last year, landed awkwardly on her ankle after a collision in the first half.
