Italian Champions Napoli Produce Incredible Gesture in Honour of Christian Atsu During Pre Season

Napoli have paid tribute to late Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu, during their pre-season game against Turkish side Hatayspor.

The Italian champions hosted Hatayspor, the club which was most affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkey earlier this year, in a friendly encounter in Naples.

Hatayspor lost winger Atsu and Technical Director Taner Savut, whose bodies were recovered weeks after the disaster.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake claimed over 40,000 lives in Turkey and Syria, and before Saturday's game, the Italian outfit remembered the victims of the earthquake.

In honour of Atsu and Savut, Napoli presented customised jerseys to Hatayspor.

"We would like to thank the Napoli team, who hosted us in Italy, for their interest and closeness," wrote the club on Twitter.

Atsu scored the winner in Hatayspor's game against Kasimpasa hours before disaster struck on February 6. The former Black Stars player was missing for 12 days, before his lifeless body was found under the rubble of a collapsed building, as reported by the BBC.

He was buried in his hometown of Ada in Ghana's capital Accra on March 17. 2023.

Danilo pays tribute to Atsu

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Juventus and Brazilian defender, Danilo has paid an emotional tribute to Ghana winger, Christian Atsu, who passed away following the Turkey-Syria earthquake.

Danilo and Atsu were teammates at Portuguese giants, FC Porto, breaking into the senior team in the same year.

Atsu sadly died after being trapped under rubble for 12 days, following the devastating disaster which claimed the lives of over 40,000 people in Turkey and Syria.

Atsu's orphanage school completed

The orphanage school building started by late former Ghana winger, Christian Atsu, has been completed with support from Chelsea, Everton, and Newcastle United.

Atsu tragically passed away in February following the devastating earthquake which struck Turkey and Syria.

The former Chelsea winger had started the building of the orphanage school before his tragic passing, leaving the completion of the project in a state of limbo.
