BoxingKaylin Swart: South African Fans Criticise Keeper After Banyana Concede Again
- Kaylin Swart has been criticised after Banyana Banyana once again threw away a lead
- Banyana Banyana led 2-0 before Argentina rallied back to secure a hard-fought draw
- Fans have questioned why Andile Dlamini isn't brought in to replace Swart in the tournament
Kaylin Swart is not the most popular person in the country at the moment.
The Banyana Banyana shot-stopper has come under criticism for her performances in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, as South Africa once again let a lead slip.
As noted by the BBC, Argentina rallied from two goals down to draw with the South African side, leaving both teams on one point in the group.
South Africa also threw away a lead in the first game of the tournament, losing to Sweden thanks to a late goal. Banyana fans have since blamed the keeper for conceding the goals, especially considering that Andile Dlamini is on the bench. Dlamini was mighty at WAFCON, and fans were already calling on Desiree Ellis to start the keeper for the game against Argentina.
With Swart again conceding crucial goals and Banyana dropping points as a result, fans have turned on the keeper, even comparing her with Harry Maguire.
Here's how fans reacted on social media to the keeper's performance and Dlamini's absence:
@MadikanaRachek1:
“They said Dlamini orchestrated the strike, and then she must be benched. Look at what Kaylin "Mpontshane" Swart is doing now!!! Politics is killing our football in SA #RSAvARG #Banyana.”
@tysonsibutha:
“Kanti, where is Dlamini? Cause Kaylin Swart is not make. She's sure #RSAvARG.”
@bongzmessi:
“If the rumours that goalkeeper Dlamini was benched for these two games as some form of punishment for her involvement in the dispute with SAFA, then Jordan & Desiree Ellis must take the blame.”
@johwstie:
“Desiree must be replaced. Her Ego won't take us anywhere. Ever since she won Women’s AFCON, she thinks she knows it all. She must go with her preferred goalie Swart or should I say Swaguire.”

FootballSouth Africa draws with Argentina
Argentina put up a fight to come from two goals down to earn a crucial draw against South Africa at the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Both teams had lost their opening matches at the competition respectively and were determined to go all out at the Forsyth Barr Stadium, located in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Although a draw would probably not be good for either of the two teams, the encounter was explosive from start to finish, Sports Brief reported.
