FootballBanyana: Fans Disappointed As South Africa Draw With Argentina in FIFA World Cup
- South Africa made history by earning their first points in the FIFA Women's World Cup
- Argentina rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a hard-fought draw with Banyana Banyana
- Banyana fans were disappointed after watching their side succumb to a draw despite leading
It’s a bittersweet moment for Banyana Banyana’s fans.
The South African side picked up their first-ever points at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but also let a two-goal lead slip.
As noted by The Guardian, the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions drew with Argentina 2-2, despite leading 2-0 at one stage.
In the second half, the South American side rallied back to force a draw and give both sides their first points of this year’s tournament.
While fans were happy that Banyana managed to grab a point in the game, the common consensus was that the South African side lost three instead of gaining one.
Others reflected on how they gave up their sleep, as the game was shown at 2 am in the country, to watch the national team drop the ball.
Here's how social media reacted to the draw.
@ShakesRampedi:
“Yoh, I'm not okay, hey 😑. That game was ours to win. I can't believe we've thrown it away😭. This was supposed to be Banyana Bayana's first victory at a World Cup. Poor Game Management. Poor final 3rd decisions. On to Italy.
@Rele_Glo:
“Imagine being late at work because you were watching Banyana Banyana bottling a 2-goal lead🤣🤣🤣.”
@Janinevanwyk5:
“Mixed emotions I’m feeling right now😔. First point in the @FIFAWWC for @Banyana_Banyana, but could’ve easily secured all 3 !!!”
@Velile_Mnyandu:
“Feels like three points dropped. We should’ve managed the game better, I don’t think we handled it well tactically. Such a pity!”
@Simon_Moetjie:
“Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana should just stick to Amapiano and leave football alone.”

Football@MotshidisiM:
“Banyana Banyana shouldn’t have drawn this game. Almost feels like a loss. There’s still hope, but our game management needs to be far better, especially when the team is under pressure. Cool, calm heads. ARG bench was superb, especially Rodrigues👌🏾FT: ARG 2-2 RSA.”
South Africa draws with Argentina
Argentina put up a fight to come from two goals down to earn a crucial draw against South Africa at the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Both teams had lost their opening matches at the competition respectively and were determined to go all out at the Forsyth Barr Stadium, located in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Although a draw would probably not be good for either of the two teams, the encounter was explosive from start to finish, Sports Brief reported.
