- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang endured a challenging year at Chelsea after joining from Barcelona
- He was in and out of the team and scored just three goals before departing to Olympique Marseille
- His father has opened up on the one year back in England and why he chose a France return
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang endured a frustrating one-year spell at Chelsea. He was justifiably part of the mass exodus this summer, and his father has opened up on his ordeal.
Aubameyang was seen as a quick fix by the Blues hierarchy for former manager Thomas Tuchel after Romelu Lukaku was allowed to return to Inter Milan on loan.
The relationship between Auba and Tuchel lasted only 59 minutes on the pitch before the German was shown the exit after the 1-0 UEFA Champions League opening day loss to Dinamo Zagreb.
He scored just three goals for the club, an equaliser in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and two goals in the doubleheader against AC Milan in the UCL, which gave the club a turnaround after they gained just one point from their opening two games.
Aubameyang's nightmare at Chelsea
The former Arsenal star's father, Pierre-Francois, speaking exclusively to L'Equipe, has detailed what he went through and why he turned down offers from Saudi Arabia to join Olympique Marseille.
"It could only be a nightmare year. Now it’s over. He has a smile. He’s signing for OM. It is a big relief after the nightmare year that he experienced," he said.
"There was contact with Saudi Arabia, but when OM came forward… who hasn’t dreamed of playing for this club? Especially in Africa. I keep receiving messages from back home," he said.
According to Metro UK, the 34-year-old rejected a move to Major League Soccer with Los Angeles FC in January after he was left out of the Champions League squad by Graham Potter.
Auba posts cryptic message
Sports Brief reported that Aubameyang posted a cryptic message on Instagram after having dinner with Chelsea teammates, Hakim Ziyech, Wesley Fofana, and Denis Zakaria in London.
Ziyech shared their photo and captioned it "too much turbulence." The Gabon international reiterated his teammate's thoughts after an underwhelming year for the Blues, which saw them finish 12th on the Premier League table.
