Messi marked his debut for Inter Miami with a stunning free-kick winner in stoppage time of their clash against Cruz Azul at the DRV PNK Stadium.

The two teams looked on course to share the spoils before Messi's game-changing intervention after he was subbed on in the second half.

The ex-PSG ace was fouled just outside the box and won a free-kick in stoppage time.

He went on to step up and curled the ball right into the top corner to secure a fairytale victory for his side.

Messi to captain Inter Miami

Just three days after his memorable debut, the Argentina international is reportedly set to captain his side in only his second game for the David Beckham co-owned side.

ESPN reports that the Barcelona legend will be wearing the armband when they play Atlanta United on Tuesday.

This was confirmed by Inter Miami boss, Tata Martino.

"The other day he was (captain) too, when he entered. Yes, he will be," Reuters quoted Martino as saying when asked if Messi would continue to captain Miami.

GOAT: Ronaldo's ex-teammate chooses Messi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that many times, the opinion of some past and present footballers on the Ronaldo vs. Messi debate is influenced by their loyalty towards the player, either as teammates at the club level or with the national team.

However, the interesting thing is that some of Ronaldo's former teammates strongly believe Messi is the superior footballer.

Speaking after Croatia suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Argentina, Luka Modric controversially rated Messi as the GOAT instead of Ronaldo.
