FootballFans React As Erling Haaland Receives ‘Huge’ Amount of Money After Preseason Win
- Erling Haaland bagged a brace on his first game back for Manchester City in a friendly
- Haaland's goals helped Pep Guardiola's side beat Yokohama in their first preseason game
- His cash prize for winning the man of the match has elicited reactions from fans online
Erling Haaland picked up from where he left last season, scoring twice in Manchester City's 5-3 win over Yokohama in Tokyo, Japan.
The striker needed only seven minutes after being introduced at half-time to open his account for the season. He added another one in stoppage time to round off the victory for Pep Guardiola's side.
The Norwegian was then awarded a cheque of 1,000,000 Yen which was presented to him on the pitch after the game. At a glance, the amount looks like a huge cash prize for one to land in one game, but for Haaland, that can pass off as mere pocket change.
Going by the current exchange rates, 1 million Japanese Yen is equivalent to 6349 euros. The 23-year-old is the highest-paid player in the Premier League and is believed to earn close to 400,000 euros per week which dwarfs his latest cheque.

"Why are they giving a man who was paid $400k for this match a big cartoonish check for $7k after the match?"

"For those wondering, that's approximately what he earns in an hour at Manchester City,"

"That is peanuts to him."
The treble winners have further games against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid before they begin their new season campaign against Arsenal in the Community Shield on July 26.
Ballon d'Or rule changes
The 2023 Ballon d'Or debate has already shaped into a battle between an existing superstar and one of his heir apparent.
At 35 years old, Lionel Messi is still in the running to win the individual prize and remains a strong candidate to win a record-extending eighth title. However, Manchester City's Erling Haaland will have a thing or two to say in the October vote.
L'Equipe, the magazine responsible for organising the annual gala where the best individual performances are feted, announced changes to the Ballon d'Or rules in 2021, shortly after Messi had clinched his 7th gong.
