Banyana Banyana are gearing up to take on Sweden in their opening game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and will have a special guest in attendance.
South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan is in New Zealand to watch the side play, but not everyone is happy about that.
SAFA and the women’s national have been embroiled in a very public spat before the start of the tournament, and fans haven’t forgiven the association for it.
As noted by Sunday World, Jordaan was invited to the t as New Zealand took on Norway. He was also there to try talking to decision-makers as South Africa hopes to host the 2027 World Cup tournament.
Following the opening fixture, Jordaan joined the Banyana camp, where he plans to watch the South African side kick off their tournament against the number-three-ranked Sweden team.
SAFA then shared a photo of the president with coach Desiree Ellis and a few Banyana stars, saying he was ready to support the side.
Supporters have ripped into the post, saying Banyana would have preferred support in the form of the money promised to them.
Here's how social media responded to the post.
“Supporting them by stealing the money donated by Motsepe foundation and the money that FIFA is giving the ladies.”
@KgaoManoko:
“He must give them their money. That is the support they'll appreciate.”
@TenTenDidiza:
“Bad luck for our girls.”
@Lukes77759454:
