The World Cup winner with Spain left England in 2020 to join Sociedad, and his 19-year career will not end on his terms.
According to the Athletic, Silva suffered the injury in training earlier this week. Players usually take months to recover from that injury, and with Silva nearing 40 years, it will be tougher for him to return to full fitness.

Silva left Valencia to join Man City in 2010 and became a pillar in the Sheikh Mansour era at Man City. He made 168 appearances for the Spanish side and scored 32 goals whilst providing 36 assists. He helped them win the Spanish Cup in 2008.
He played 436 times for City, scoring 77 goals, providing 140 assists, and winning 14 titles, including four Premier League titles. The only trophy he has never won is the Champions League. He left the club as an icon, having helped the club establish its dominance in the Premier League.
At Sociedad, he made 93 appearances and scored 7 goals, and provided 18 assists, per Transfermarkt.
Moreover, he made 125 appearances with Spain and played was a key player in their 2008 European Championship glory, 2010 World Cup triumph, and 2012 European Championship victory. He scored 35 goals for Spain.

FootballSports Brief earlier reported that Silva was fined more than €1,000 for grabbing a young woman during a brawl at a music festival in Spain.
The incident took place at the recent Maspalomas Carnival in Gran Canaria and included Silva's brother and a third individual.
The case never reached trial as all defendants admitted their parts in the incident.
