The bond between Neymar and Messi, cultivated during their time together at Barcelona, remains strong despite their recent separation after the Argentine opted to leave PSG for Inter Miami.

This connection has inspired Neymar to consider naming his potential future son after the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, per Essentially Sports.

Amidst the anticipation of their daughter's arrival, the couple recently celebrated the upcoming birth with a heartwarming baby shower.

While they are busy preparing for the addition to their family, Neymar expressed his desire to name his next son after Messi during a recent appearance on a TV show.

During his interview with Caze TV, cited by ESPN, the 31-year-old was quizzed about whether he has a name in mind if he has a baby boy. Without hesitation, he named "Messi". as his preferred choice.

Messi-inspired baby names skyrocket 700%

Neymar's intention comes as no surprise as Front Office Sports reports a remarkable 700% increase in babies named Lionel and Lionela in Messi's home province of Santa Fe following Argentina's World Cup victory.

According to Rosario newspaper Diario La Capital, approximately one in every 70 babies born in the region in December was named after the football icon.

Interestingly, back in 2014, Messi's hometown allegedly enforced a ban on parents naming their children after the star.

Sports Brief also reported that Neymar Jr is one of Lionel Messi's biggest fans, and he doesn't hide it, as proved by his recent interview where he revealed what he told his former club teammate ahead of the final against France.

France were the odds pick in the final, and it was understandable because they were defending champions and had an easier run, but Neymar wanted it more for Messi after he had fallen short.

“I spoke to Messi before the World Cup final, and I told him: ‘I didn't get there, but since you got there, win the World Cup.’
