Lionel Messi has been voted the greatest of all time (GOAT) by Saudi Arabia football fans as the rivalry between the pair rages on, almost two decades since the argument started.

A Saudi TV station ignited the debate once again over who is the best player between the pair in a recent poll conducted during Al Nassr’s pre-season friendly game against Benfica.

After the poll was conducted, Messi had over 70 percent of the votes cast, while Ronaldo, who currently plies his trade in Saudi Arabia, had just 30 percent of the votes.

Ronaldo and Messi have recently ended their stints in Europe after sealing mega-million money moves to Saudi Arabia and the United States, respectively, and have had over a decade-long rivalry.

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022 after terminating his contract with English Premier League side Manchester United while Messi recently joined David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the MLS.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid forward, Rodrygo has chosen Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi as the greatest of all time when he was asked to pick his GOAT between the pair, Sportskeeda reports.

Rodrygo never got the opportunity to play alongside Ronaldo as he joined Real Madrid in a €45 million move from Santos in 2019, a year after the Portugal forward joined Juventus.

Ronaldo, who has been voted as Ballon d’Or winner five times in his career, scored a staggering 450 goals in just 438 matches for Real Madrid across competitions and also provided 131 assists.
