  • Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr suffered a 4-1 loss to Benfica on Thursday
  • The five-time Ballon d'Or winner featured in the game but failed to score
  • Al-Nassr have now conceded nine goals in their pre-season games so far

Cristiano Ronaldo was in action as Al-Nassr suffered a 4-1 defeat against Benfica in their latest pre-season friendly on Thursday - but he won’t want to see his early miss again in a hurry.

The 38-year-old was involved from the beginning at the Estádio Algarve, where Angel Di Maria made his return to Benfica to mark his first appearance back in Portugal.

However, unlike his former teammate, Ronaldo was unable to find the back of the net despite playing for 84 minutes.

The Portuguese captain had the opportunity to grab his first goal of the pre-season after he was served an impish through-ball from Al-Nassr's new signing, Marcelo Brozovic, inside the first half.

In a video shared on Twitter, the legendary goal-scorer found himself with just Benfica goalkeeper, Odysseas Vlachodimos, to beat but his audacious chip shot went well over the cross bar.

Benfica hammer Al-Nassr in friendly

Despite Ronaldo missing a couple of excellent scoring chances, his former Real Madrid teammate, Di Maria showcased his ruthlessness in front of the goal, netting a stunning opening goal for Benfica, per Sportskeeda.

Goncalo Ramos, the hat-trick hero of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and a teammate of Ronaldo in the Portuguese national team, scored two goals in the first half before Khalid Al-Ghannam pulled one back for Al-Nassr.

Late in the game, Andreas Schjelderup added another goal for Benfica, extending their lead to 4-1.

Despite Ronaldo's recent remarks about the decline in European football quality, Benfica demonstrated their superiority over Al-Nassr, effortlessly outplaying the Saudi Pro League club.

Di Maria destroys Ronaldo's Al-Nassr

As Sports Brief also reported, the Argentina World Cup-winning forward proved to be the catalyst for the reigning Portuguese champions in their victory against his former teammate.

Di Maria's moment of brilliance arrived after 23 minutes when he skillfully danced through the Al-Nassr defence before executing a trademark lobbed finish to place Benfica ahead.
