Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain have been engaged in a tug-of-war for several months now. The French superstar does not want to leave the club or sign a new contract. The club wants him to sign a new deal for fear of losing him for nothing next summer.
The Ligue 1 champions are reportedly prepared to take every measure they can to ensure they don't lose arguably the best player in the world for free next summer.
The club appointed former Spain and Barcelona manager, Luis Enrique as the new coach, but the Mbappe transfer saga has dominated football headlines for almost a year now. He was close to joining Real Madrid last summer but signed a new deal at PSG.
He signed a two-year deal that reportedly made him the highest-paid player in any sport. His weekly wages were believed to be 1 million euros per week. There has been a back-and-forth between Mbappe and the club regarding his future.
PSG's letter to Mbappe set July 31 as the deadline for the resolution of their dispute. It is also the date for triggering the one-year extension. Therefore, the situation could erupt this month. Even Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez questioned Mbappe's indecisiveness.
PSG ultimatum to Mbappe?
Club president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi said on July 5 that they will not allow Mbappe to leave for free.
"And if he does not want to sign a new contract, the door is open. It’s like that for him and everyone else. Nobody is bigger than the club, no player, not even me. It’s very clear," he said, via Eurosport.

Ex-EPL star blasts Mbappe
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mbappe’s recent outburst against Paris Saint-Germain has not gone down well with former Italian and West Ham United player Paolo Di Canio, who has criticized the forward.
In a recent interview, the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot winner took shots at the club as the fallout of his decision not to activate a contract extension clause with the Ligue 1 champions continues.
Di Canio has now labeled Mbappe as 'indecent and disrespectful' towards the Parisians, who have reportedly informed the forward he must extend his deal or be sold this summer.
