- Rooney had other concerns about the game and claimed to have taken 'nothing' out of the encounter
Mikel Arteta appeared to have taught Wayne Rooney a tactical lesson, but the Manchester United legend rebuffed the claims as he had other concerns about their encounter.
Arsenal beat an MLS All-Stars side coached by Rooney 5-0 at the Audi Field in Washington DC. The Gunners have stepped up their preparation ahead of the new season after falling short of the title last year.
Goals from Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Jorginho, Gabriel Martinelli, and new signing Kai Havertz wrapped up a comprehensive victory for Arsenal.
Rooney learnt 'nothing' from defeat
The game should have been a tactical lesson for the Manchester United legend, who is not having the best time in management after his stints at Derby County and now DC United.
Rooney hilariously claimed that he learnt 'nothing', and instead hit out at the organisers of the match, labelling the game as pure publicity for the American soccer league.
"What did I take out of this game? Absolutely nothing," he said, via SportBible. "The players only arrived on Monday, and I suggested that we have a small-sided game on Tuesday to get ready for the match.
"I told them I didn't want them training at the National Mall, but that's where we trained, and so we couldn't do anything but head tennis. We had no time whatsoever to do any tactics, so all I could do was put the players out there and hope they could figure things out amongst themselves.''
Lampard admits challenging coaching career but won't go into punditry
FootballThat would never work against a top-quality European team like Arsenal, who were close to winning the Premier League title last season, and the scoreline supported this.
Rooney sums up Kane's situation
In other news, Sports Brief reported that Rooney summed up Harry Kane's situation at Tottenham Hotspur and described the striker as a 'prisoner' at the North London club.
He tipped his former club Manchester United to go for the Englishman but admitted it would be difficult as Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy is a tough negotiator.
