Erik ten Hag has disclosed why Manchester United re-signed former defender Jonny Evans on a short-term deal.

According to The Sun, the centre-back's contract with the Foxes expired earlier this month, rendering him clubless.

The former North Ireland international has since been training with United’s Under-21s in a bit to maintain his fitness.

His return saw United re-sign him on a short-term deal, with Ten Hag including him in his squad for the pre-season.

Why Man United re-signed Evans

Ten Hag has since opened up on the Red Devils' decision to re-sign Evans, disclosing that he was brought in with the hope of having him impact the young players.

"Of course I know [about] him for a long time, I know his place was here, was in Manchester," the Dutchman told MUTV, per Metro UK.
"We welcomed him to come and train with us, to work on his fitness, and then I said not all the players are in, the internationals were out still on their break.
"We know he’s a very experienced player but also a very good person, big personality, and I think he has a big authority as well and he can help the young players especially in such moments. So it benefits all sides," he added.

Ten Hag made the revelation after Evans made his second debut for United against Lyon in Edinburg.

Rooney advises Greenwood to leave

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has advised Mason Greenwood to leave the club following the latest snub by Erik ten Hag.

the English forward has not kicked a ball for more than a year and a half, with his latest appearance for the Red Devils coming in January 2022.

The youngster has been battling legal challenges after he was charged with assaulting and abusing his girlfriend.
