Mikel Arteta has responded to Arsene Wenger's prediction that Arsenal will win the Premier League title next season.

The Gunners came close to securing the prestigious crown last season but missed out on it by a whisker in the final weeks of the campaign.

Wenger contends his former side are on course to win the title next season for the first time since 2014.

According to the legendary French manager, Arsenal's heavy investment this summer in new signings will help them challenge for the domestic trophy.

“I believe we will win the championship, it is as simple as that," he told EuroSport.

Arteta responds to Wenger prediction

Arteta has now come out to respond to Wenger's prediction, with the Arsenal boss revealing he hopes his old manager’s prediction comes true.

However, the former midfielder was quick to admit that he expects the title race to be more competitive next season.

"Hopefully, he is right! He is a very intelligent man with huge experience, so I am hoping that he is right," Arteta told ESPN.

"It will be more difficult [next season] for sure, because the league is going to go to a different level again – which is already incredible," he added.

Manchester City, United, and Liverpool are among the teams in the frame to challenge for the Premier League next term.
